Terms of use
This is a translation; the Greek text prevails.
1. Who provides the service
The Byzantine Dots service (byzantine-dots.gr, byzantine-dots.com) is provided by Fr. Theodoros Tsampatzidis.
- Address: [postal address]
- Email: info@byzantine-dots.gr
- [VAT or registration number, if the service is provided by a business or organisation]
2. What the service does
It converts pages of Byzantine chant (photo, image or PDF) into Byzantine music Braille using the method of the monk Dositheos, for a Braille embosser or display. It is free to use and needs no account.
The service is in a trial phase. Automatic recognition can make mistakes, and lyrics are not yet recognised. The Braille it produces must be checked by someone who knows the method before it is used for teaching, examinations or liturgical practice.
3. Your part
- Upload only material you are entitled to use: for example your own editions, works free of rights, or accessible-format copies for the personal use of a person with a visual impairment, as allowed by Greek Law 4672/2020 (Marrakesh Treaty).
- Do not upload files with other people's personal data or with malicious content.
- Do not load the service with bulk automated requests that prevent others from using it.
4. Intellectual property
The software, design and texts of the service belong to the provider. The conversion rules follow the method of the monk Dositheos as documented in the doctoral thesis of Fr. Theodoros Tsampatzidis (Ionian University, 2024). Your files remain yours. Braille produced from an edition is subject to the rights in that edition. Open-source tools used are listed under software licences.
5. Liability
The service is provided "as is". We make every reasonable effort for correct results and continuous operation, but we do not guarantee that the Braille will always be accurate or that the service will always be available. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damage caused by errors of automatic recognition or by interruption of the service. Liability for intent or gross negligence is not limited.
6. Changes and interruption
We may improve, change or temporarily interrupt the service, for example for maintenance. Significant changes to these terms will be announced on this page.
7. Law
Greek law applies. If you are a consumer, you keep all the rights given to you by consumer-protection law. For any question or complaint, write to info@byzantine-dots.gr.
